Image result for hope compared to faithHope is this feeling just like happiness. It will go away sooner or later. I don't have something that gives me hope, but many people have different things in there lives that give them hope. Hope is something that I've lost several times. People have things or object that give them hope or they are hopeful for. For me on the other hand I no longer hope for things. I have had too many broken promises that I "hoped" would happen. I was told that hope is something that people have when they really want something but if all you do is hope and not actually put forth the effort to get that thing you're hoping for you won't get it. People think it's unusual that I don't have one thing that gives me hope. I could be like everyone else and give you a short sweet answer like : Family, Food, Friends, etc. But none of those things give me hope. When I was younger around the fifth grade I wanted to be in safety patrol so bad. Everyday I would hope that my teacher would pick me to be the next captain of safety patrol. One day I got an slip and found out that I got picked I thought all those times I hoped was the reason why. When it really was because I was a hard worker. So even though all my "hoping" payed off I still had nothing to hope for. Happiness can almost be as confusing as happiness. I often think of faith and hope to be the same thing. Faith is confidence or trust in a person or thing or a belief not based on proof and hope  is an optimistic attitude of mind based on an expectation or desire. Fatih  says it is so now, and hope  says in the future it could happen.

"The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas" by Ursula Le Guin

In the short story "the one who walks Away from Omelas" the author Ursula L Guin , Guin starts the story off with the narrator telling readers about the happiest place ever filled with nothing but joy. In the city of Omelas everyone is happy and there is no worry in his society. But with complete happiness come sacrifice. this is when the author throws the twist in. Guin adds in the sacrifice that the people of Omelas had to make in order to be happy which was....

It. It as the author explains is a child that doesn't have a determined gender. Guin goes on explaining that the child is different from the rest of the people of Omelas because its shows signs of a mental disability.

Image result for the one who walked away from omelasThe child represents all the bad in a society. It seems that all things that can and do happen within a society was forced upon the poor child. Things like poverty and hatred have been put on one person in order for the rest of the people of Omelas to have a happy life. No one in Omelas was really happy that a child had to be treated so badly in order for others to have happiness. Some people more than others were able to say enough was enough and walked  away from the city.
I would view the ones who walked away from Omelas as activist. Activist stand up about problems in there society and want to see change. These people felt so passionate about losing absolute happiness for a child  to experience happiness and to be treated equally.

Social Justice

Image result for social justice
The spreading of opportunities, wealth, and privileges throughout society is social justice.  Social Justice is a problem our society has always had. In her Ted Talk "Islamophobia killed my brother. Let's end the hate"  Suzanne Barakat explains the social Justice she experiences after the murder of three of her family members. Barakat tells the audience that all people no matter there religion should be treated the same. But since they look different or have different beliefs from someone they should be targeted. Not only targeted but held responsible for the actions that other people do that look like them and have the same beliefs as them. After the death of her three family members the man who had killed them told the police that the reason he murdered three Muslim college student was because they had a parking dispute. But in all honesty he was prejudice towards people that are Muslim be thought of him above them. Barakat also states that after the man confession that there was no further investigation into the killings. Barakat had to fight to get the right story out there. She had to earn her social justice unlike a white male would because they are naturally given there justice. Social Justice could easily be prevented if people just listened. If people weren't so closed minded everything would be different. We would have minorities being treated than people with fairer skin. And we wouldn't have women getting paid less than men when they are do the same job. Social Justice for all people would be the greatest thing to gain when it comes to the United States because we are the most diverse country in the world. For me being black and white I still don't get all the "white privilege" and there's certain things on I can't speak when it comes to my African American side. Not at all looking for pitty but most people would think that people would be more lenient because I'm bi-racial when its the total opposite. It seem from both side I get shit. Will I get discriminated more or less if I was darker skinned. Would Social justice "rules" change of me because I'm fair skinned ? The answer is yes. I will have more privileges than someone darker than me but people will still discriminate me because I'm also half Black.

Miranda July's "Birthmark"

Image result for imperfections quotesMiranda July's short story "Birthmark" tells the story of a lady that had a imperfection. That imperfection had caused he to be self cautious most of her life. She later got her "burden" removed. Several people have told her she looks so pretty. But she started to feel different. People told her that it seemed that she had "lost her voice". Her accent was something that set her apart. Now that she had lost it she no longer feels unique. "She didn't missed the birthmark, but she missed her Norwegian heritage".  One day she realizes that her imperfection has came back. Once she comes to the conclusion that the Birthmark is something that makes her stand out. Its something that set her apart. She compares herself to a plant. "She didn't have to think because plants don't have to think about it, Weather doesn't have to think about themselves". Once our main character had had something that was apart of her taken away from her she found out that she was happier with it. When we let people tell us "you would look so much better with *blank*" basically if you change something about yourself you won't only please them you'll please them and everyone else that had to see your imperfection. When people tell people like that we think dang maybe we should be more appealing to people if changed that. Its just a way we think as humans.  But once the main character imperfection came back that void or emptiness that she felt when she first got it removed had been filled. She was happy all along especially when she had her birthmark. The fact that she didn't even know that the mark had made her different was very hard to understand why she would want it removed. lots of people like to stand out and be known for something.

Matthieu Ricard Talk

In his talk "The habits of happiness" , Matthieu Ricard, states that "we can train our minds in habits of well being, to generate a true sense of serenity and fulfillment". Ricard explains what happiness is and how we can get some. He states that the only way to get happiness would have to be by "training our minds in habits of well-being, to generate a true sense of serenity and fulfillment".  He states that once we love something or it becomes our happiness we get tired of it. That getting tired of something is in our nature. He explains to viewers that we try to gather things until we're satisfied with what we have, and then once we get what we want we force ourselves to believe that we're happy. Ricard says that material things will not make you happy, you need to change the way you think. If you think in a positive way you'll be happier. The way you think can depend on the way you feel about yourself, and basically life.

I'm a very negative person. When I think I think of the worst possible outcome. But knowing that in order to start having a happier life I will have to change the way I think, makes it seem easy. Changing your mindset will be hard but once I follow what Ricard says I will see improvement. I feel Ricard idea is not a over night change you can make. Its going to be a long term change. I think that meditation is foolish. But its a seem that meditation is a way to reset your mind and start a new mindset. I fully agree with what Ricard has said. I belive once I change my mindset that my life will become happier.

Gilbert's talk

In his TED talk on "The Surprising Science of Happiness" , Dan Gilbert asks, "why are we happy". Gilbert explains that  secret to happiness is synthetic happiness. Gilbert discusses that synthetic happiness can be way more beneficial when it comes to living a happier life. He states that synthetic happiness comes from our psychological immune system .Synthetic happiness is a action that helps people come to a conclusion that the material things that we wanted but didn't get, weren't exactly going to make them  happy anyways. They later find out that they can still be very happy without it. This is also know as impact bias, when people convince themselves they would of been better off without it. Gilbert supported his assumptions by giving people options/ limitations on two photos they took, He told one group that they only can pick one, but if they didn't like it they could swap it out for the other photo. He told the other group that they have to make a choice now and can't exchange there photo. Gilbert's data showed that the people that exchanged the photo weren't happy even after they swapped the photo and the other group grew to love and become very happy with there photo. He closed his argument by coming to the conclusion that people are fully capable of making their own happiness if they have restrictions put on them.

Knowing what I know now his findings are astonishing. What people should get from this is that they need to stop yearning for happiness. People need to know that we're our biggest tool when it comes to being happy. Happiness is within all of us. The fact that teens aren't taught about synthetic happiness is livid. Many don't think that knowing you can make your own happiness isn't rewarding enough but the truth is it's very significant. It's important to know that you can make your own happiness because down the road you ll have to make do with what you got and that knowing that we're able to make our own happiness is gonna make hard situations easier to handle. This kind of happiness will make people lives blissful.

Happiness by definition is a mental or emotional state of well-being defined by positive or pleasant emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy. Happy mental states may also reflect judgements by a person about their overall well-being. Now i have been faced with the question what is true happiness. I truly don't think that I have ever experienced truly happiness. But I will say that I have been happy in certain moments. But happiness is to me just a figment of imagination. We will never really experience happiness. To me I will reach true happiness when I come before God. Yes I'm a religious person. I believe there is someone much higher. I believe that I will have to come forth after I leave earth to explain all my sins. Once I do that I will be able to see and experience true happiness. But many will have there own opinion on God and if he's real. To me I follow what scripture says. Now the other day in class a girl asked about sexuality and if ur sexuality differs from what it says in the bible will it mean that they are wrong and should forget there happiness in order to please others. To me I see nothing wrong with a man loving another man and a women loving another women. Even though the Bible does say it should be man and women it also says God does things for certain reasons and I believe that this is one of those kinds of cases. I think that god had always planned to make Another man love another man. And I grew up around people who were homophobic and think that its was wrong which made me think at one point that it was wrong. My grand parents which whom I live with are very old school and go by the bible. Now I'm not saying i lived in a very strict Christian house I was raised to follow the bible yes I give grace before I eat and pray every morning before I go to school but I'm way different from the basic "Good Christian" label that everyone that goes to Church wants to be. I have always thought things happen for a reason and moved on people constantly  down grade people in the LGBT community for the "Horrible" things they do but once again all I see is normal people doing things that make them happy and that will eventually get to there true state of happiness. I did say that happiness was a figment of our imaginations bu in my case my true happiness would be going to heaven. And I know that other people have opinions about what true happiness is but this is just what I believe. This is what as of right now I see as my Happiness and goal to reach. even though It's hard for people that don't believe in Monotheism which is the belief in one god I just want u to really think about what you think about happiness and when you true experienced happiness. And when u read others writing I bet you will also be very shocked in people's answer.
